Data is captured from the edge, filtered, converted to native events, and enriched for transport to the CEP engine. Additional optimization/encryption may be performed for WAN transport
|
Events are archived, analyzed for complex event patterns, and summarized using flexible CEP rules. New higher-order events may be generated as a result of CEP rule execution.
|
Events and state changes are published to users and applications through the response framework. Events are made available to external applications via the publish/subscribe API. Additionally, users and applications can be notified via the event push outbound adapters (email, SMS, SOAP, http, etc).Security |
The Event Zero EPN framework features pervasive and granular security across all solution components, ensuring that individual events, event streams, rules, summaries and event states maintain their integrity.
Configuration Management
The Event Zero EPN framework is administered from a single location, and features industry leading automated change management and configuration propagation throughout the entire EPN.
EPN Monitoring
The Event Zero EPN framework has inbuilt self-monitoring, using the EPN infrastructure itself to detect significant EPN infrastructure events, and transmit them through administrative channels for analysis and response.
Product Components
The Event Zero Product Suite is made up of 4 distinct components; Agent, Occurrence, Perspective and Administrator.
Agent
Agents are responsible for connecting actively to events sources as well as listening passively for events streams that are defined in the EPN configuration by the Administration Tool. An EPN many have any number of Agents and each agent can service up to 1000 event sources. Agents are typically the point of ingress for events entering the EPN and typically spool events to a persistent queue before relaying them to a parent Occurrence server.
Occurrence
Occurrence the at the heart of every Event Zero EPN and is responsible for several different roles within the EPN such as; Edge Collector, Relay, Director and Primary Director.
An Event Zero EPN can contain 1 or more Occurrence Node, which can be deployed in any role with the exception of a Primary Director. Each EPN must have only 1 Primary Director. Primary Directors are charged with ownership of the EPN configuration. The Administrator Tool connects to this node to read and write configuration settings which are then propagated to every other occurrence node within the network.
Occurrence nodes deployed as Directors are responsible for operations within the EPN such as executing rules, collating summary and statistics, hosting Application Services API's or Perspective visualisation frameworks. Each of these functions can be distributed across one or more Directors.
EPN's that consist of many event sources across multiple geographically disburse locations can use an Occurrence node deployed in a Relay Role. Relays take events from one or Edge Collectors and aggregate them into a single compressed and encrypted stream so WAN bandwidth impact is kept to a minimum.
Finally, Occurrence deployed in an Edge Collector role is takes on the responsibilities of managing Agents, controlling the security of incoming events, profiling event sources and enriching events so that they can be more effetely processed by the EPN nodes across the rest of the network. Any number of Edge Collectors can be deployed and each Edge Collector can connect directly to a Director or a Relay to pass events to the processing engines.
Perspective
Event Perspective is Event Zero's Visualization and Response framework which includes components for visualizing event streams and processed output in dashboards. It also contains native Case Management and Workflow processing engines to enable users to identify events and manage and escalate their response.
Also embedded in Perspective is the ability to create 3rd party components and plug-ins for the visualisation framework, enabling developers to minimize the time spent building custom applications by leveraging existing features and services of the Event Zero EPN. Perspective also contains an extensive Programmatic API that developers can use to build custom applications with by using standard protocols such as web services.
Administrator
The Event Zero Administration Tool (or EZAT for short) is a windows based application for administering EPN's. It's extensive use of wizards and other productivity features enables EPN Administrators to very rapidly deploy and maintain very larger networks from a single console.
Below is a diagram of a typical Event Zero EPN Deployment, made up of one Occurrence Primary Director, one Occurrence Director, one Relay, several Edge Collectors and many Agents.

Deployment Options
Event Zero provides range of options for physically deploying an EPN. These options include Software Only, Virtual Appliance, Physical Appliance and Hosted Service, each of which can be mix and matched to suite as required.
Software
Using Occurrence in a software only deployment option enables customers to deploy Event Zero's EPN technology on existing hardware or extremely high-end hardware for very high through requirements. The software package is available with native installers for a wide range of platforms including Solaris 9/10, Redhat, Debian, SuSe, NetBSD, FreeBSD, AIX and other systems.
No other pages are required to be installed along with Occurrence, and a database is not required if events from the EPN do not require historical analysis.
Appliance
Event Zero has several options for deploying EPN nodes on purpose built and preinstalled appliances, ranging from small free-standing or desktop appliances for small office or remote office deployment through to larger scale devices capable processing 150,000,000 per day.
Virtual Appliances
Virtual Appliances are the same deployment as a physical appliance, but designed for be deployed into virtual server frameworks such as VMWare ESX or Microsoft Hyper-V. They provide all of the same features but require no physical foot print in the data centre.
Hosted Service A hosted EPN facility is also offered by Event Zero. Hosted options are ideal for customers doing Proof on Concept deployments or applications that are based around internet technologies such as Product Tracking.
