Provisioning: Polycom

Polycom has a rich suite of Lync-certified desk phones from the VVX, SoundPoint and SoundStation families that work very well with Lync and Skype for Business. They're nearly infinitely customizable and can suit even the most demanding customer requirements. However, configuring, provisioning and managing these phones has never been easy and requires an FTP expert to make it easy to use.  For maximum configuration ability, you are currently required to create FTP servers while manually managing the phone’s XML files.  A lot of work to deploy the phones…until now.

Event Zero’s Provisioning Polycom module for its UC Commander suite turns that difficult, time-consuming task into a simple, GUI-driven tool that automates the entire process. With this new tool, you can easily create numerous configurations that can be applied at the global, site, group, phone or even individual device level.  You can now easily provide sales users a dedicated button for calling the warehouse, and receptionists several buttons for reaching various teams. Your Paris office needs a picture of the Eiffel Tower on their phone as a reminder of how beautiful the city is, while New York users get one of the Empire State Building and San Francisco gets the Golden Gate bridge. Rolling out new firmware updates can be done globally at the click of a button.

The UCC Provisioning Polycom module is available today, you have to see it to believe it.

Rethinking phone provisioning

Rethinking phone provisioning

Provisioning of IP phones has changed little over the last 20 years. Provisioning an IP phone with TFTP (or HTTP) with manually coded XML files is at best inconvenient and at worse, a management nightmare. Add to that the management and distribution of firmware releases and the complexity increases. Event Zero has re-envisioned the process with Provisioning: Polycom

Provisioning Simplified

Provisioning Simplified

Instead of manually messing around with FTP/TFTP or HTTP based solutions, Provisioning: Polycom uses a simple provisioning connector that installs in minutes on any Windows PC or server. We provide a library of pre-configured templates which you can either use as-is or modify to your specific requirements. All this is done via a simple, easy-to-use web-based GUI. You can be up and going in minutes, instead of hours or days with traditional solutions.  Better yet, you can always use our standard reporting to see how the phones are being used, which phones are not on the latest update, and a lot more!

Create your own configurations

Create your own configurations

Create as many configurations as you want, in whatever format you need. For example, you can create a few monolithic configurations that contain all the settings you need for a given site, or you can create numerous smaller configurations that enable or disable features as needed.  Its all up to you.  Dossier will dynamically combine multiple configurations into one as it is delivered to the endpoint. Don't have time for this? Dossier includes a comprehensive set of default configurations that you can use as is, or modify as required.

Take control of your phones

Take control of your phones

Easily manage phones and apply custom configurations at a global, site, phone model, group or individual device level. Using our web-based GUI, you can remotely access phones, view logs, apply configurations, reboot and even see the phone screen as it appears on the phone itself.  Perform site-level configuration changes and force reboots of every phone at the group or the site to ensure uniform conformity.

Already have provisioning configured?

Already have provisioning configured?

If you're already provisioning your phones using more "traditional" methods, you probably had to temper user expectations as to the number of custom configurations you can administer. To apply more than one configuration to a site would involve configuring DHCP reservations or multiple scopes and a lot of manual labor. With Dossier's UCC Provisioning Polycom tool, you can import any existing configuration directly into Dossier, and finally be able to give one department a different configuration than another - all served from the same platform using a single access point. Your users will thank you.  You will thank you.

Various Deployment Options

Various Deployment Options

Do companies need to be using Lync or Skype for Business to use the UCC Provisioning manager?  Absolutely not.  We have deployed our provisioning platform at many locations that do not even use a common UC platform.  It only provisions the phones, that’s all, nothing more.  The only items required to make it work include a provisioning server (Windows PC or server) that’ll communicate to both the Polycom phones and the UCC Server (in the cloud or on premise).  It is important to note that the deployment of the Polycom Provisioning can work in conjunction with the rest of UCC suite, but it will work independently as well.  So it is up to you…use the Polycom Provisioning alone, or use the entire UCC Suite if you have Lync or Skype for Business in play.  It is a win-win situation for any Polycom deployment.

Provision and Manage

Provision and Manage

The Polycom Overview page makes is simple for any administrator to quickly see the number of phones provisioned, types of Polycom phones provisioned, bandwidth usage, phones provisioned by site/groups, recent phone changes, and more. Add in our Powerlist (reporting) and you’ll see there is simply not a better solution for implementing, managing and monitoring Polycom phones available.
