Event Zero was founded in 2005 by a few Australian IT entrepreneurs to build computer systems concentrating on complex analysis. Enterprise Commander grew out of these early efforts as a tool designed to control and manage large numbers of assets in the Enterprise.
And then – something happened in unified communications. Once again, everything changed. Typical with software, needs change, competitors emerge, and new opportunities reveal themselves. Microsoft released Lync Server 2010, and a paradigm shift occurred in the Unified Communications market. Typical with complex systems like Lync Server, monitoring and management tools didn’t exist. Microsoft customers who were using Lync Server found it incredibly powerful, but lacking in reporting and analytics. The Event Zero team recognized this shortcoming.
The UC Commander platform was born. Customized reports revealing new data in different ways, busy time heat maps, conference call data, and Response Group data were added or enhanced to meet the demand.
UC Commander introduced another new paradigm – the ability to manage, approve and provision phone endpoints within a suite to manage the platform controlling the unified voice, collaboration and conferencing experience end to end. The obvious choice was Polycom, given the deep partner status of Polycom with Microsoft and the relationship Event Zero built with Polycom. Event Zero released Provisioning as a new feature in the UC Commander platform allowing a phone administrator to have complete control over phone feature deployment across an entire enterprise.

UC Commander’s impact resonated all the way to Redmond, Washington. Microsoft took notice of the software suite that their biggest customers were using. In 2015, Microsoft acquired the intellectual property of UC Commander from Event Zero.
UC Commander’s Future
Office 365 is growing, and continues to enhance its offerings to individuals and businesses. As a part of the enhancements, Microsoft intends to integrate technologies from UC Commander into the cloud platform, providing analytic capabilities to Office 365 and Skype for Business in the cloud.
Current UC Commander customers, at the end of their subscription, will have the option to move to Office 365 and the new advanced analytics that will be found there. Event Zero will be at the forefront of aiding customers moving to Office 365 and using the analytical tools there.

Advanced device provisioning and managment and beyond
Event Zero is now in a new chapter. Over the past year, new research into emerging and existing technologies continues. Office 365, provisioning of Polycom devices (phones, video systems) and easing the move from Microsoft’s on-premises systems to the cloud are at the forefront of this research. Event Zero is committed to their customer’s needs in making the next technical paradigm leap, and easing the management and technical burden all companies experience in their day-to-day operations.
Event Zero focuses on researching new products, executing on strategies that will empower users to use their investments in software and systems better, and looking forward to what the next Enterprise tools will be. A strong area of interest is Office 365 and how to ensure that Office 365 customers realize the value of their investment in Microsoft’s flagship cloud service.
Event Zero is currently working on new tools to empower small to enterprise-scale businesses manage their voice over IP (VoIP) phone and conferencing system devices. Our goal is to make the process of managing the configurations and updating of endpoint devices as simple as possible. We think that we deliver on that goal with our EZ Unified Device Manager series of tools.

Alex, MCITP, CISSP, has a mixed background in technology and business spanning greater than 20 years. In his current role, he leads sales, strategic partnerships and operations for Event Zero. Previously, he worked in UC design, architecture and deployment for a wide range of environments, from small organizations to large enterprises requiring complex or custom communications solutions, and is responsible for architecting and implementing some of the largest Lync and Skype for Business deployments in the world. Alex is a strong believer in aligning technology to business goals to create a competitive advantage, making IT truly a partner to the business. Including titles on Active Directory and Exchange, and on Unified Communications, Alex has participated in writing eleven best-selling books from 2004 to present; most recently Skype for Business Unleashed. In his spare time Alex enjoys scuba diving and beach volleyball.
Starting his career at Microsoft Canada as an OS technical support technician in the 1990’s, Ken’s ever-evolving experience in Information Technology has brought him to the cutting edge of unified communications. Since 2007, Ken has immersed himself in Microsoft’s UC technology, starting with Microsoft OCS 2007 and now with Skype for Business. He has worked on dozens of UC consulting engagements for companies ranging in size from small businesses to multinational corporations. Over that same timeframe, Ken has become a trusted voice in the UC community, with a widely-read blog focusing on Skype for Business and an indispensable tool to create Skype for Business Enterprise Voice dial plans used by thousands of IT professionals. Ken brings this experience in UC to Event Zero, where he is responsible for designing and bringing to market all the software in the Event Zero portfolio.
Chris works with customers across EMEA to ensure they get the best from their Event Zero products. Chris has been involved in Unified Communications since 2001. Working initially with Avaya Unified Messaging while working at Avaya before moving into Microsoft Exchange UM. Chris has been involved with Microsoft’s real-time communications from OCS 2007 working as Technical Director and Unified Communications Practice Lead. Chris spent ten years as an IT Manager before he started working with UC products and brings together his experience of IT operational management and UC expertise to enable solutions to large organizations.
Muhammad is the Head of Engineering at Event Zero and is responsible for leading the engineering team across a range of in-house products. He is tasked with implementing best Agile practices, managing requirements in effective ways to suit the organization’s productivity needs, guiding and mentoring team members across the organization. Muhammad has a strong and extensive background with more than twenty years of experience working in multifaceted roles, ranging from network and systems administration, software engineering, team leader, scrum master and Chief Technical Officer.
Pat Richard is a Unified Communications Architect responsible for all things PowerShell. A Microsoft MVP for 11 years across 3 products, Pat is also a published author, blogger, and podcaster. He has written many high-profile PowerShell scripts including the popular Lync and Skype for Business prerequisite scripts, QoS Planning Calculator, and more. He has been involved in some of the largest Lync/Skype for Business and Exchange Server migrations in the world.
John Cook is currently working with Event Zero, creators of the best Real Time Analytics and reporting tool for Microsoft Lync and Skype for Business. Prior to that, John was an Independent Contractor with nearly 20 years of experience whose focus is primarily Microsoft Exchange, Lync/Skype for Business and Office 365 deployments and migrations. John is a Microsoft Certified Master in Exchange and hails from Chicago, IL.
Jason Weaver obtained his first MCSE certification back in 2000 and has kept current with that certification and associated UC technologies, focusing mainly on Microsoft UC aspects. Over the past 25 years, Jason has built and supported large call/contact centers, analyzed hundreds of networks for VoIP readiness, worked as lead Lync/Skype engineer for large corporations and has most recently helped to build and market the finest device provisioning solutions on the planet. Jason lives near Austin today and enjoys dreaming of ways to make the world a better place while sinking into lake life whenever possible.
Gina has 15 years’ experience in Project Management and as a Program Manager, focusing on Customer Service Operations. Gina most recently worked as a Project Manager for HP @ Proctor and Gamble (P&G) on their global Lync Server deployment. Gina’s main responsibility was deploying Lync at Proctor and Gamble Global HQ. She was also responsible for leading and providing on-going global customer support. Gina has extensive experience in Customer Operations, Contingent Workforce, On/Off-Shoring, and Vendor Management.
